Is it safe to put lens underwater?

I was wondering if you could just put the top of your digital Camera underwater to take pictures? i want to do it becuase it would look cool but i don't want to ruin my camera!!!!!!!!!!!!

Help Please! My digital camera.... can it be fixed???!?

It's the polaroid i533. Last August it was dropped about 3/4 a foot underwater, and stayed there for 1 second tops. Then it was left outside for a few hours in the sun. For the next few months it flat out- wasn't working. But recently when I put new batteries in the screen flickers on, and if I hold the lens in so they do not come out, or if I apply enough force and pressure against them, then the camera sucsessfully powers on, but only for about 6 seconds. I try to take pictures, but am unsucessful. Do you think it can be fixed?

My camera got wet too (Not in 3/4 foot of water though just some drips of water) and I asked a question similar to yours, I thought my camera was broken but your might be able to be saved. You did on thing right, leaving it alone for a few months!! When mine got wet this is what some people told me to do and it worked, take out the batteries and memory card, open all comprtments and let it dry out like that for about a day, close all compartments and stick it in a bowl of rice, the rice should dry out the moisture and it should work.... it not you are going to need to get a new camera!!
