Canon Digital Underwater Photography

What is the BEST compact camera which I can use for underwater photography?

I need to look for a fairly cheap yet decently good digital compact similar to the Panasonic Lumix LX3 (unfortunately this camera does not have an underwater housing built for it). Besides the Canon G9, is there another camera good for underwater photography?

I want options to choose from and currently the information is hard to find. Maybe anyone here has experience in their cameras for underwater photography please share.

If not, do you think I should use 1-2 double seal zip-lock bags to protect the camera instead will suffice? Anyone,... please I would love some advice. Thanks heaps.
sorry,... I forgot to mention,... I will probably need a "semi-pro" P&S,... like the 2 mentioned above. Though the Olympus seems like a good deal,... but I think I will need something more than that. Something which I can work manually too, as I am a DSLR user, and I want something lighter to work while I am underwater. Thanks.

Both Olympus and Pentax make P&S cameras that can be used down to 3 meters without using any special housing.
