franzliv: I’ve used it at at least three occasions when it would have been impossible to shoot handheld without the combination of 2.8 and stabilization.
1. In Rio at the Jesus statue when it was storming like hell. I could barely stand up and shaked a lot. It was late in the afternoon/evening and the sky was really dark.
2. In Paris I took some shots at 17.30 lokal time on January 9th! And that’s late. I was really surprised that I could take any pic at all. They are blury yes, but the option would have been no photo at all.
3. At christmas I took some indoor pictures at a shopping mall and there were certainly not much light to play with. I took some handheld shots at 1/25 sec, not razor-shape but OK.
I paid 421 EUR (546 USD) for this second hand lens on ebay. A new Sony 70-200 /2.8 costs 2400 EUR (3100 USD) in Sweden (it is cheaper in USA, about 2400 USD). A Canon or Nikon with IS and VR respectivly, you can find on ebay for about 1100 EUR (1500 USD).
I guess that the original Canon, Nikon and Sony lenses are wonderful and play in an other division, but spending that pile of money was not an option. Keeping the budget in mind I am very satisfied with my lens.
I’m after that lens on ebay but for my Nikon. I already have a Sigma 70-300mm APO Macro D lens (old one not DG), but I’ve noticed that when shooting at 70mm the lens seems to give soft images. Do you get sharp images with the lens at all focal lenghts, what about wide open (at 2.8). BTW, excellent kit!
Well, honestly I haven’t taken many shots in the shorter part of the range. But over all I am satisfied with the lens. I’ve got a Tamron 90-300 / 4.5-5.6 but that one is crap compared to this Sigma.
Chevy57Envy :
1. yes
2. I don’t know, haven’t tried
3. I don’t know, it just works
4. no idea
Parker D:
I haven’t compared it to the 2.5 times as much Sony lens. I don’t complain about the speed.
andy.lin:
I haven’t tried with any other camera. I guess it would work with any jpeg.

It works perfectly well. It is a true nuclear flash that will light up a universe.
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God grabbed the Minolta 5200i and didn’t even have to say "Let there be light", light was flashed and forever brought to earth.

Well, it’s not necessarily the equipment that makes the artist. : -)

First off nice kit. I have a couple of questions about the Sigma 70-210.
1. is it the APO version
2. Are you able to stop down/up?
3. Did you get it re-chipped to work with your A-100?
4. If yes for question 3- Do you know where you can get it re-chipped? I know that Sigma stopped doing that a couple of years ago =(
Thanks again, great setup =)

I’m considering buying this lens, but have heard the auto focus is slow. Would you agree with this, is it too slow to shoot moving subjects?
Thanks
